Praxis CORE Exam

The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) exam is a basic skills exam required of all education and speech pathology majors, It assesses an individual's knowledge in reading, writing and mathematics. Passing the Core exam is a Department of Education requirement for licensure in the State of Nevada. In addition, it is a requirement for program admission and registration into 300 and 400 level courses. New students should take the Core exam within their first three semesters at Nevada State College. Transfer students should take the Core exam immediately after admission to Nevada State College.

Computer-based testing for the Core exam is offered continuously throughout the year. You may take the computer-based test only once per calendar month, and no more than six times within a 12-month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.

Paper-based tests are offered on fixed dates throughout the year. For paper-based tests, you can register online at using a credit/debit card.

Testing Accommodations

The following nonstandard testing accommodations are available for test takers with specific needs:

  • Alternate test day for religious or military reasons (Monday testing)
  • Extended test time for test takers whose primary language is not English (PLNE)
  • Arrangements for test takers with disabilities

Ordering Additional Score Reports

You can request that the Educational Testing Service send your scores for tests taken during the last 10 years to institutions and agencies that you did not choose on the day you took the test. Score reports can be ordered by fax, mail, phone or online. Ordering information can be found on the ETS website.
