In December 2014, the Dr. Joel and Carol Bower School-Based Health Center (SBHC) had
its Certification Visit from the The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health
(NDPBH), Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness. The SBHC was approved for
certification, and awarded a certificate which states, The Dr. Joel and Carol Bower
SBHC has successfully met the Nevada SBHC Standards for Certification. The Director
of the School-Based Health Center, Dr. Sherri Coffman, was very excited about this
accomplishment. We have been working very hard for this, she said. I m so pleased
to announce that we passed with flying colors!
The (NDPBH), Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness is the organization that approved the certification. The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) was then notified that the SBHC has met the certification requirement to receive Medicaid Provider Type 17 reimbursements.
The Dr. Joel and Carol Bower SBHC is the first school-based health center in the State of Nevada to achieve certification. Established in 2004, the health center was founded as a partnership between the Nevada State College School of Nursing and Basic High School to address significant unmet health needs of Henderson children. Operated by the NSC School of Nursing and located on the Basic High School Campus, the health center serves Henderson school children ages 4-19.
Dr. Neal Rosenburg, Dean of NSC's School of Nursing, applauds the efforts and success of the SBHC. The NSC School of Nursing is proud to support the school-based health center, he said. They are doing a fantastic job, and we congratulate them for this achievement.
The SBHC's certification status will be effective for two years from the date it was approved. In maintaining their certification, sponsoring agencies and/or SBHC staff may be required to participate in NDPBH, Bureau of Child, Family and Community Wellness meetings, and training and technical assistance opportunities as they are developed.
Coffman and SBHC Founder, Dr. Joel Bower, expressed their gratitude and congratulations to the SBHC staff, listed as follows:
Erika Weber, SBHC Coordinator
Maribel Gonzalez, Medical Asst. and Admin. Asst.
