Admissions Criteria for Freshman or First-Year Applicants

Admission to Nevada State College as a freshman or first-year applicant will be based on the student's academic record. This will be established through one of the following sets of criteria:

High school students/graduates:

  • The students who attended an accredited or approved high school must complete a standard high school diploma, have an overall grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and complete the following coursework:
  • Four years of English
  • Three years of mathematics, with at least two being algebra I or higher - two years of applied algebra count as one year towards the requirement
  • Two years of science, with at least one lab science
  • Three years of social studies
  • National college entrance tests, ACT/SAT, will be used as benchmarks for placement in English and mathematics courses.

Home school students/graduates:

The students who are homeschooled are required to have an overall grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, to take either national college entrance test, ACT or SAT, and complete the following coursework:

  • Four years of English
  • Three years of mathematics, with at least two being algebra I or higher - two years of applied algebra count as one year towards the requirement
  • Two years of science, with at least one lab science
  • Three years of social studies

GED students:

Those students who have completed a General Educational Development credential will automatically be sent to the Admissions Review Committee for an admission decision. The admission will be based on our evaluation of college preparation and readiness as a student who completed a GED.

Students not meeting the above requirements:

Some students who are deficient in the course but have a sufficient grade point average or completed a certificate of completion and have a sufficient grade point average may be granted admission on a conditional, probationary or special basis upon further evaluation by the Admissions Review Committee.

Admissions Criteria for Transfer Applicants

Admission to Nevada State College as a transfer student is based on the evaluation of the student's academic record. To be admitted as a transfer student, the student must have earned at least twelve (12) transferable credits with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00.
