Scorpion Academic Scholarship Program

  • Guaranteed scholarship deadline: January 15, 2017
  • Priority scholarshp deadline: April 15, 2017 (if funds remain after the guaranteed deadline, awarded on a first-come, first-served basis)

At the time of admission, new students who have met the scholarship deadline will be evaluated for eligibility to be named as a Scorpion Academic Scholarship recipient. Eligible students must graduate from high school with a minimum 3.25 unweighted GPA, or from a community college within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) with a 3.25 GPA and an AA, AS, AB, or AAS in Nursing. Students must enroll as a full-time (12 or more financial aid-eligible credits†), degree-seeking student at NSC the semester immediately following graduation. Freshman recipients may qualify to receive an award during the first eight fall or spring semesters of their enrollment, and transfer students during the first four. Students will be placed in one of two award levels based on their entering GPA as follows.

2017/18 Award Level* GPA Criteria Maximum Award
Presidential 3.75 and above $2,500 semester
Mount Scorpion Achievement 3.25 - 3.74 $1,500 semester

Students must be enrolled full-time (12 or more financial aid-eligible credits†) at NSC to receive the award during a semester**, and meet the minimum GPA requirement for their category. This is the cumulative GPA of all non-remedial courses taken at NSC that appears on the academic transcript and which will be reviewed prior to the beginning of each semester. Presidential scholarship recipients who do not meet the 3.75 GPA requirement for a semester, but who achieve a minimum 3.25 GPA, will receive an incentive award in the amount of $1500 for the semester.  Students may not receive an award from a tier higher than their initial award level. Students placed on Satisfactory Academic Progress suspension or probation are ineligible to receive an award until the student regains good standing. NSC will confirm enrollment after the end of each semester's add/drop period, and reverse any disbursements for which a student is no longer eligible based on decreased enrollment. In the event recipients do not meet the enrollment or GPA requirement for any award in a semester, they may regain eligibility in the next fall or spring semester, until the award expires.

Students entering in Spring 2017 are eligible for scholarships but with differing amounts. Please call 702-992-2170 if you have any questions.

** Students in their final semester of enrollment who are not required to attend full-time to satisfy graduation requirements may have their award prorated according to their enrollment level. 75% for ¾ time, 50% for ½ time and 25% for less-than-half-time. Students should contact the financial aid office after applying for graduation.
