The School of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) at Nevada State College is committed to providing students with an exceptional and rewarding learning experience. One way we achieve this is by rigorously assessing how well students are acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college and beyond. Every three years, teams of LAS professors from each degree program collect and analyze a wide range of data on student performance in key learning areas (e.g., the ability to write effectively). If overall student learning comes up short in any area, the teams use a sophisticated analysis to unearth the cause of the problem. Once potential causes have been identified, the teams work diligently to solve the problem and implement improvements in our curriculum as well as in our classrooms. In the end, the process ensures that students graduate with the essential knowledge and skills required by their field of study, and puts them firmly on the path to success.
