Contribute to the first Nevada State Community & Diversity Zine in a DIY zine making workshop led by the Office of Community Engagement & Diversity Initiatives.

Tunnel of Awareness

The second annual Tunnel of Awareness is a museum style program recognizing a variety of human experiences. In the tunnel, rooms will encourage awareness of social justice, equality and identity matters. Tunnel topics will include:

  • Disability Awareness, Ability Focus
  • Misconceptions & Stereotypes that contribute to Inequality & Discrimination
  • Race & Policing: Inequality in Social Justice
  • 22 A Day: Veteran Suicide Awareness
  • Intersectional Identities

The Office of Arts & Culture is proud to present Scorpions Open Mic cohosted by Poetry Promise, Inc. and Jordan Caldwell of Sharing Reality. This reading will include contributors from the anthology Clark, and Nevada State students, alumni, faculty and staff. An open mic will follow.

The Get Involved Fair will allow students to connect with Nevada State College clubs and organizations and find out ways that students can be involved with campus activities. Don’t know of a club on campus that interests you? Stop by the Nevada State Student Alliance (NSSA) table to find out how you can create your own organization.

Scorpion’s Calling

Scorpion's Calling is a premier social event at Nevada State College. Come have fun in a family friendly atmosphere. Entertainment will include life size and interactive carnival games, a student talent show, and a DJ.  Be sure to check in early to get your free t-shirt and meal voucher (food vouchers and t-shirts will be available until supplies run out). Come kick off the fall 2018 semester in style!

Basin and Range Opening Reception

The Office of Arts & Culture is pleased to present Basin and Range.

Basin and Range features eighteen Southern Nevada artists who were invited to create artwork that honored world-renowned artist Mi­chael Heizer’s iconic land art piece Double Negative, and another of his works, the massive City in the Basin and Range Province.

This exhibit is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative, a program of the Nevada Arts Council, which is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Nevada State Legislature.

 

Office of Arts & Culture Offsite Arts Events

The Office of Arts & Culture is a proud supporter of our community-based arts partner, Poetry Promise, Inc and the Poets of National Stature Series. Join us on Saturday, September 23rd at Left of Center Gallery and the Pearson Community Center for a day of poetry with Saul Williams.

A leading voice on the spoken-word scene, Saul Williams began astonishing open mic audiences with his impassioned tongue-twisting verse in the mid-1990s and then became a grand slam champion at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. In 1996, he led the New York team to National Poetry Slam Finals. Williams has performed in over 30 countries and read at over 300 universities, with invitations spanning from the White House, the Sydney Opera House, the Lincoln Center, The Louvre, The Getty Center, & Queen Elizabeth Hall, to countless villages, townships, community centers, and prisons across the world. Multi-talented, Williams has also recorded with Nine Inch Nails and Allen Ginsberg, as well as countless film and television appearances.
