All students, faculty, staff, and community members who RSVP and check-in to events will receive a complimentary t-shirt on a first-come,  first-served basis. While supplies last. 

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26  |  IDENTITY & INCLUSION DAY

Privilege Walk 
11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Ballroom & Foyer | Rogers Student Center

Dean of Students Dr. Richard Yao will lead 25 students through an activity designed to help us to recognize how power and privilege can affect our lives even when we are not aware it is happening.  Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with race, class, gender and other topics within their comfort level.  

Tunnel of Awareness

Innovation Commons (RSC 236) | Rogers Student Center

NSC’s first Tunnel of Awareness is a museum-style program recognizing a variety of human experiences. In the Tunnel, rooms will encourage awareness of social justice, equality and identity matters. 

"Evening of Stars & Stripes" & Presidential Debate Viewing Party presented by Liberal Arts and Sciences

All are invited for a Presidential Debate Viewing Party complete with refreshments, voter registration, and the opportunity to take a guided tour to the NSE rooftop terrace for star-gazing.

Morning Salutation Yoga Session presented by Nursing

Led by Lea Ramos, APRN-BC and Certified Yoga Instructor, Owner and CEO of Rainbow Clinic & Holistic Yoga.  Bring your yoga mat, and join us as we greet a day of well-being.  

Orange Theory Fitness Challenge

A series of fitness challenges throughout the day so you can test yourself with “The Orange Effect” – a fun and effective exercise phenomenon that’s sweeping the nation.  Bring your workout gear.  Lots of giveaway items; participants are required to sign a waiver.  

Self-Care as a Path to Health and Wellness presented by Nursing

Barriers to Engaging in Wellness Activities presented by Nursing

Presentation by NSC Lecturer Andra Scano, MSN, RN, COI. Explore some of the psychological and environmental barriers that may prevent us from engaging in wellness behaviors. 

Bowling with Bart

Mix and mingle with President Bart Patterson at this fun, family-friendly event. Unlimited bowling (including shoe rentals), pizza and soda are provided at no charge. Please limit guests to one per NSC community member. Space is limited and registration is required. 

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28  |  COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS DAY

NSC Reading Room presented by Education

Kick-off to this day-long celebration of reading. All are encouraged to bring a favorite book to read and a book to donate. Book Drive bins will be available throughout SPIRIT WEEK; donations of books in any age category welcome. Sign-ups for this evening’s Open Book Open Mic (see separate listing), NSC Book Club(s), volunteer opportunities with local reading and literacy programs. Don’t miss out on the fun photo opps and props at the social media booth – recommend a book!

Stop Drop and Read presented by Education

INBRE Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium presented by Liberal Arts and Sciences

The Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) is hosting its Undergraduate Summer Research Poster Symposium to showcase Nevada State College students’ summer research. Come see and celebrate our students’ amazing work! Lunch will be provided!

Read Smart Strategies presented by Education
12:30 PM to 2:00 PM
Ballroom | Rogers Student Center

Drop in for quick and handy tips to improve your reading skills.  Rotate through three mini-sessions of 30 minutes each (attend any/all sessions you wish): Close Reading, Speed Reading, Special Issues in Reading for Instructors – ESL students, DRC issues, etc.

Open Book Open Mic presented by Education 
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Step up to the mic and present a favorite passage or an original piece of writing (short story, monologue, poem, etc.) in NSC’s premier performance space. Time limit per presentation will depend upon the number of attendees/participants. Seize this unique opportunity to connect on a creative level with fellow members of Scorpion Nation.

President Bart Patterson will address campus constituents and the greater Henderson community to highlight recent NSC accomplishments and detail upcoming plans and goals for the College. Immediately following the address, will be a Campus Tour & Art Walk.

Meet and greet with members of the NSC leadership team.  Students and administrators come together to break bread and get to know each other in a relaxed setting.  Enjoy a casual meal and conversation at the NSC family table.

At the Nepantla Leadership Day Panel you will learn more about various leadership styles and social movements in our society today.  Come see our community leaders showcase their leadership skills, share their successes, and their own leadership philosophy that's driving the culture today.

NSC Foundation Scholarship Luncheon (invitation required)

The purpose of this event is to honor those who make the Nevada State College Foundation Scholarship Program at NSC possible and to celebrate the academic achievement of our student scholars. This event provides and an opportunity for donors and friends of the College to meet and interact with their current scholarship recipients. This event is by invitation only.

Scorpion’s Calling
6:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Scorpion’s Calling is a premier social event at Nevada State College.  Come have fun in a family friendly atmosphere.  Entertainment will include a DJ, Student Performances, and interactive games. Student clubs will be fundraising and delicious food specials will be available for cash only.  Come kick off the Fall 2016 semester in style!
