What Can I Do With This Major

Students

Students at Nevada State College have a number of ways to connect with the new Career Services Center. From career counseling appointments to workshops, students are encourage to engage, connect and invest in their career goals!

To participate students must meet the following criteria:

  • A student must be currently enrolled at Nevada State College for 1 regular credit hour or more (audit-only students are not eligible)
  • A student must have a declared degree status of undecided or any degree major within the School of Education, School of Liberal Arts and/or Sciences or School of Nursing
  • Non-degree seeking students are not eligible, but may be granted usage on a case-by-case basis
  • Certificate/Licensure students may be eligible under the Alumni Eligibility guidelines (below) or granted access on a case-by-case basis
  • A student must be in good standing with the College (e.g. with Academic & Student Affairs and Student Conduct)
  • A student must be in good standing with the Cashier's Office and/or Financial Aid
  • Select services/events also require a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher:

Our online job and internship board is called Handshake. All NSC students already have a Handshake account – just use your NSHE ID number and your password associated with your NSC account to log in! Please see the page related to this platform for more information.

Services and access to the Career Services Center are free. Stop by the Career Center in Rogers Student Center Room 318 for more information, email career@nsc.edu or call 702-992-2611.

Alumni

Alumni are also welcome to enjoy all of the free services and tools offered by the Career Services Center that are available to currently enrolled students. This includes access to the online systems, workshops and the ability to see posted positions to our campus from employers. For access to the Handshake portal, please email career@nsc.edu .

To participate alumni must meet the following criteria:

  • Alumni must have a fully awarded degree (degree completion) from Nevada State College
  • Alumni who only completed a certificate/licensure with the College will be granted access on a case-by-case basis
  • Alumni must be in good standing with the College, their School and/or the Alumni Association

In addition, we encourage alumni who would like to become professional mentors or guest speakers at career workshops to contact us! Your insight is valuable to our campus, and we would enjoy seeing you again.

NSC’s Career Services Center offers its students and alumni a modern career development platform called Handshake.  All current NSC students have a Handshake account already created – you just need to log in the first time to activate it!  Through Handshake, students can:

  • View local and national job and internship positions, personalized based on your major and interests
  • Connect and interact with recruiting employers and build your career community
  • Learn about and register for local and on-campus career fairs and networking events
  • Explore the Resource Library to find online career-related resources and handouts pertaining to career/major exploration, resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, and more
  • View a personalized news feed containing the latest information and career events from NSC Career Services Center and your favorite employers you follow

Log In Instructions for Current NSC Students:
All current NSC students already have a Handshake account created – you just need to log in the first time to activate it!  To log into Handshake:
  • Go to http://handshake.nsc.edu.  Click on the blue “NSC Login” button.
  • Enter your NSHE ID# (in the username field) and your NSC password associated with your NSC account.  Click the “Log In” button.

Log In Instructions for NSC Alumni:
To gain access to Handshake, NSC alumni must email career@nsc.edu to request access.  Make sure to include your NSHE ID#, the month/year you graduated, and your degree.

Students who attended NSC but did not graduate cannot gain access to Handshake.

What Can I Do With This Major

As a comprehensive database of majors and career options, "What Can I Do With This Major" is designed to help you see the correlations between your degree program and your career goals.

To use What Can I Do With This Major

  1. Log into Handshake and click on the “Resources” option under the “Career Center” tab.
  2. Click on the “What Can I Do With this Major” icon to access the website.
  3. Please note: NSC Career Services pays a subscription fee for students to access this website. Therefore, students can only access this website from Handshake. Students cannot just type the URL into a browser as the content won’t be viewable.
