3+1 Program

Nevada State University and Touro University Nevada 3 + 1 Program

 

Nevada State University and Touro University Nevada entered into an agreement in 2017 where Nevada State students can complete a Bachelor of Science degree and a Touro University Nevada Master of Medical Health Sciences degree within four years. The 3+1 program provides a clear pathway for a future in medicine and other healthcare professions.

Admissions Requirements

 

To be considered for acceptance in the 3+1 Program, applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

1. Have taken and completed, at a minimum, the following courses with a grade of “C” or higher at Nevada State:

  • 12 credits of Biological Sciences
  • 3 credits of Microbiology/Immunology
  • 3 credits of Genetics (in addition to the 12 credits of biological sciences)
  • 12 credits of Chemistry (labs are not required)
  • 3 credits of Biochemistry (in addition to the 12 credits of chemistry)
  • 8 credits of Physics
  • 6 credits of English composition and/or Literature

2. Completed a minimum of 90 hours of coursework at Nevada State before matriculation into Touro University Nevada.

    Program Timeline

    Freshman Year
    • Work with Nevada State advisors to plan and take required general education courses and core courses.
    Sophomore Year
    • Work with Nevada State advisors to plan and take required general education courses and core courses.
    • Interview with pre-health committee at NSC
    • Interview with committee at Touro University Nevada
    Junior Year
    • During the summer after the junior year and before matriculation into TUN, students will attend a Summer Learning Enhancement Program (SLEP). This program will include study skills, time management, medical terminology, medical curriculum, and basic science review. The SLEP program will run for three weeks and attendance is mandatory.
    Senior Year
    • Students selected for the 3+1 Program will matriculate into Touro University Nevada as full-time MHS students following their junior year at Nevada State.

    *In order to remain in the program, students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.25 and a science coursework GPA of 3.5, both on a 4 point scale at their undergraduate institution. Failure to maintain the required overall GPA and science coursework GPA may disqualify the student from continuing in the program. Forfeited positions may be replaced by a joint decision between TUN and Nevada State.

    Plan Ahead for Advanced Study

     

    Is medical school or physician assistant school in your future? Participating students who are interested in entering TUN’s College of Osteopathic Medicine or School of Physician Assistant Studies will be guaranteed an interview as long as they maintain a certain GPA. Also, the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) will not be required as part of the application process.

    • Students who want to proceed to the TUN Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program should have achieved a GPA of 3.25 at the conclusion of the first semester in the Master of Medical Health Sciences program to qualify for a guaranteed interview.
    • Students who want to proceed to the TUN Master of Physician Assistant Studies program should have achieved a GPA of 3.5 at the conclusion of the first semester into the Master of Medical Health Sciences program to qualify for a guaranteed interview.
