In This Section

The Nevada State Speech Language Pathology program offers speech therapy services at two locations. The NS Speech Language Clinic is located on the Nevada State campus and is housed in the Christiansen Education Building. The NS Speech Language RiteCare Clinic is located in the center of Las Vegas behind the Scottish Rite building.

The Nevada State Speech Language/RiteCare Clinics are specialized facilities dedicated to diagnosing and treating communication disorders and difficulties related to speech, language, voice, fluency, cognition, and swallowing. Our clinics offer comprehensive assessments that evaluate an individual’s communication abilities and identify any impairments or delays. Treatment plans are then tailored to address specific needs, which may include speech therapy exercises, language intervention, voice therapy techniques, or swallowing therapy. Additionally, the NS Speech Language/RiteCare Clinics often provides counseling and support for individuals and their families to help them better understand and cope with their communication challenges.

Our clinics are training sites for future speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Services are generally provided by graduate speech language pathology students and supervised by clinical faculty members.  All supervisors hold a master’s or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology, the Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and are licensed by the Nevada Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Services are provided at no cost to patients, please click here to learn more about our Open Service Policy.

SPEAK OUT!®

Who: This program is recommended for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson-plus syndromes.  It was developed by the Parkinson Voice Project in Richardson, Texas. Since Parkinson’s is a progressive, degenerative condition, maintaining the strength of one’s voice can be a challenge. People with Parkinson’s often struggle with motivation as a result of the lack of dopamine in the brain.

This treatment is offered to civilians and veterans who will come together in the group piece of this treatment approach

What: SPEAK OUT!® is a highly effective speech therapy program, and the first step in a two-part therapy approach.  SPEAK OUT!® typically consists of twelve individual speech therapy sessions conducted by a speech-language pathologist. Together, the patient and the speech-language pathologist work their way through a series of speech, voice, and cognitive exercises outlined in a comprehensive workbook provided to every patient in the U.S. as a gift from Parkinson Voice Project. Each therapy session lasts 40-45 minutes.

The primary goals of SPEAK OUT!® are to strengthen the muscles used for speaking and to teach patients how to speak with intent. Once patients complete SPEAK OUT!®, they transition to the second part of the program called The SPEAK OUT Group®.  In 1999, Parkinson Voice Project’s founder developed The SPEAK OUT Group®. This maintenance program consists of a speech therapy group to help patients maintain the strength of their voices. The SPEAK OUT Group® provides ongoing vocal practice, accountability, support, and encouragement. By participating in SPEAK OUT Group®, patients have been shown to maintain their SPEAK OUT!® results for more than five years and counting.

The SPEAK OUT! & SPEAK OUT Group therapy regimens were developed at Parkinson Voice Project in Richardson, TX.  You can visit their website HERE.
