Apply For Aid

How To Apply For Scholarships

The Nevada State Foundation Scholarship Application is open each year between December 15 and April 15. To learn about other scholarships, visit this page.

How To Apply For Grants And Student Loans

The most important step in receiving financial aid is to complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) or the Nevada State Non-Federal Aid Application for students who are not eligible to apply for Federal Student Aid.

Students and parents can complete the FAFSA® through the StudentAid.gov website.

  • The results of the FAFSA® or Non-Federal Aid Application will be used to determine the types and amounts of federal, state or institutional aid you are eligible to receive.
  • The FAFSA® or Non-Federal Aid Application must be completed every academic year.
  • Certain types of aid are awarded based on a priority deadline, as indicate on the Types of Aid page.
  • Students who have not completed the FAFSA® or Non-Federal Aid Application and turned in all requested documentation 4 weeks prior to the tuition due date should be prepared to arrange payment of their balance due and receive their financial aid as a reimbursement.

Have Special Or Unusual Circumstances?

For some students and families, the information submitted on the FAFSA® or the Non-Federal Aid Application does not accurately reflect their current circumstances. If any of the following conditions apply to you or your family, we encourage you to make an appointment to discuss your situation so we can find out more. If it will benefit you to petition, we will provide you with the necessary forms and instructions for what type of documentation to submit. Otherwise, we will explain why a petition would not be helpful for you.

Once you submit all requested documents, we will process your petition and update your application information accordingly. This process can take 4-6 weeks.

  • Special circumstances include a reduction or loss of income, unemployment, homelessness, or a significant increase in expenses, especially relating to child or dependent care, transportation, disability care, or medical care.
  • Unusual circumstances include inability to contact parents because of safety concerns or due to their incarceration, or if their whereabouts are unknown or they are otherwise not able to be contacted. Victims of human trafficking and those granted refugee or asylee status may also qualify to be classified as independent and therefore not be required to provide parental information.

 Summer Financial Aid

There is no application other than the FAFSA® or the Non-Federal Aid Application to apply for summer financial aid.  Summer is the last semester of the financial aid year at Nevada State, so the FAFSA® or Non-Federal Aid Application used is the one used for the past fall and spring semesters.

Students who register in financial aid-eligible classes in the summer semester who have a complete financial aid application for the prior fall/spring semesters will be considered for financial aid and notified of eligibility by campus e-mail and in MyNSC Student Center.

  • Many aid programs have annual limits, which, if used for enrollment in the fall and spring, may not be available for summer.
  • Students beginning at Nevada State in the summer semester will have a review of any prior aid received at other institutions in order to determine remaining eligibility for the summer.
