Lakiasha Hollingsworth is the Director of TRIO Student Support Services at Nevada State. In her role, she is responsible for recruiting TRiO-SSS students, increasing their retention rates, and helping them graduate. TRIO-SSS is funded to serve 140 students that are first-generation, low income, or disabled. This past year, the program obtained an 86% persistence rate and 93% good academic standing rate.
Prior to beginning her career at Nevada State, Lakiasha worked as a Design Release Engineer for Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Motors.
Lakiasha joined the college in June 2012 as a summer STEM instructor for TRIO Upward Bound and later became the Program Coordinator. She later joined the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences as an adjunct instructor and Coordinator of Developmental Math. She enjoys working at Nevada State because of the unique family atmosphere that it provides. In addition, as a first-generation college student, she has a passion for working with students who have a similar background.
“Being able to provide students with an honest account of my experiences as a minority and first-generation college student is important to me. I’m proud to be able to work with the TRIO-SSS program because it allows me to provide students with the academic support they might not otherwise have as they face the challenges of obtaining a college degree.”
Lakiasha is originally from Detroit, MI and enjoys spending time with her two children and husband. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, and traveling with her family.
