Nevada State College celebrated the construction of the Student Center and the Nursing, Science, and Education Building with a Beam Signing Ceremony.
NSC hosted a Beam Signing Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 3, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event was held in front of the construction site for the new buildings, near the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS).
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Cam Walker, the Director of Business Development for Ledcor, which is the company handling the construction of the new buildings. The next remarks were made by NSC President Bart Patterson. “This is a really exciting day for NSC,” President Patterson said. “We all have an opportunity to be a part of history.”
In attendance at the ceremony were several members of the NSC Foundation Board of Trustees, including Glenn Christensen, David Grant and Hannah Brown. Representing the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) were Regent Kevin Page, Chair of the NSHE Board of Regents, Regent Andrea Anderson, and Chancellor Dan Klaich. Also in attendance was Marydean Martin, for whom the Marydean Martin Library was named.
All guests in attendance were encouraged to leave their mark by signing the beam, which would be placed in the infrastructure of one of the new buildings. Students, faculty and staff wrote inspirational quotes and messages, drew pictures, signed their names, graduation dates, and much more expressing their love for NSC.
After the beam was signed, members of the community and the media were invited to take a tour of both the Student Center and the Nursing, Science, and Education Building.
Around 1:00 p.m., the beam was placed in one of the new buildings, amid cheers and applause from audience members. That was a memorable experience,” said Amey Esparza, Executive Assistant for the Offices of College Relations and Community Engagement and Diversity Initiatives. “I’m glad I was here and could tangibly mark my place in NSC history.”
