Campus Update Sept. 4, 2020

Dear NSC Community,

Within the past 24 hours, NSC has been informed that a member of the campus community has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The individual was last on campus in the evening on September 1 in the Kasner Academic Building to attend a hybrid class session and has not returned to campus since. The individual has advised that they did not visit any other area of campus. The individual was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on September 3 and is recovering at home following protocols set by state health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The class has been notified and we have been informed that all individuals maintained social distancing and wore face coverings on campus. The class will meet remotely for at least the next two weeks.

Public health officials maintain the risk is low for people who have had brief contact with an infected individual, especially when appropriate protocols for prevention have been followed. When an individual is confirmed to have COVID-19, the Southern Nevada Health District determines who they may have had close contact with and guidance is provided directly to those individuals.

The Southern Nevada Health District emphasizes that those most at risk from COVID-19 include people who have had daily repeated and prolonged exposure. The college is sending this notification out of an abundance of caution because the individual visited a public space on campus on the evening of September 1.

We ask the NSC community to continue following protocols for preventionmaintain social distancingbe aware of symptoms of COVID-19, and seek medical care when it is needed.  Individuals who test positive for Coronavirus should self-report at https://nsc.edu/coronavirus/self-report/.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation in Nevada and throughout the country. We will continue to share information specific to NSC through official channels, including https://nsc.edu/coronavirus/. The site includes links to health resources, college operations, current announcements, and other important information.

NSC will communicate confirmed cases through campus wide notifications only when members of the college community may have been exposed. Unless these circumstances arise, NSC will continue to communicate case information through https://nsc.edu/coronavirus/. This information complies with Clery Act requirements.

Sincerely,

Bart Patterson
