Faculty, staff and student volunteers were proud to share their NSC pride during the Henderson Heritage Parade and Festival on Saturday, April 21, 2012. The event organized by the city takes place each year in the Water Street District to celebrate the culture, history, and community traditions of Henderson. 2012 marks the third year in a row NSC has participated in the event as a major sponsor.
NSC is honored to join the city in this annual celebration as the City of Henderson was instrumental in the founding of the College and has always been a terrific partner, said Bart Patterson, NSC President. Our students and staff were especially eager to participate this year to share the excitement of our 10th anniversary with those in attendance.
An anniversary themed float was designed and decorated by the Nevada State Student Alliance (NSSA) to represent the college in the parade. The float was accompanied by Patterson along with one of the college’s most recent additions the NSC scorpion mascot. Standing over six feet tall with an infectious grin, the mascot made its way down the parade route for its very first public appearance.
Various NSC student organizations additionally participated in the festivities by selling commemorative 10th anniversary bottled water as a fundraiser for their groups. The Anatomy and Physiology Honors group, Blue Marble, Circle K International, and Latino Scorpions collectively raised over $500 for their clubs. NSC also sponsored a food, clothing and dance demonstration stage along with make-and-take craft booths during the festival.
Our students really led the charge this year with NSC’s participation in both the parade and festival. It’s great to see them so dedicated to engaging with the community and representing the college, said Jerica Turek, the NSSA business manager. We look forward to future opportunities for them to continue to do so.
