School of Education tops nationwide survey for Quality of Instruction

HENDERSON, Nev. The School of Education at Nevada State College (NSC) ranked first in Quality of Instruction and second in Satisfaction with Faculty and Courses and Overall Program Effectiveness in a nationwide survey of teacher preparation programs conducted by Educational Benchmarking Inc. (EBI).
Graduates of teacher preparation programs at 44 institutions nationwide were surveyed by EBI over the past year to assess the program’s effectiveness. Nationwide, the exit surveys were completed by over 8,200 students, including by more than 50 NSC graduates.
The EBI assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of the learning outcomes, effectiveness of institutional resources and the overall educational experience of graduates.
Some areas addressed in the assessment include: quality of instruction; learning theories and teaching pedagogy/techniques; research methods, professional development, and societal implications; aspects of student development; classroom equity and diversity; management of education constituencies; assessment of student learning; satisfaction with faculty and courses; administration services; support services; fellow students in program; student teaching experience; career services; and overall program effectiveness. Of these 14 areas, NSC received an excellent score in nine.
Educational Benchmarking, Inc. (EBI)) provides comparative assessment instruments and analyses to support improvement of program quality in many areas of higher education. EBI also offers comprehensive assessments of academic and student affairs programs, as well as custom assessments tailored to the needs of educational institutions.
