Preventions & Precautions
The Health District continues to remind the public to take steps to protect themselves and others, including those most vulnerable to the impacts of COVID-19. This includes older adults and people who have chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Put distance between yourself and others. Keep at least 6 feet between you and other people. Stay home as much as possible. Avoid shaking hands.
• Do not go to the emergency department unless it is essential. Emergency departments need to be able to serve those with the most critical needs.
o If you have a mild cough, fever, or other respiratory symptoms, contact your doctor first.
• Practice everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:
o Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
o Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
o Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
o Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Stay informed. The COVID-19 situation is changing frequently. Up-to-date information is available on the Health District website at southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/coronavirus or the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.
Facilities staff has increased cleaning frequency and intensity on the most vulnerable spaces and surfaces, including restrooms, conference rooms, and public spaces. Sanitization continues on regular touch points, such as on handrails, building entrances, and elevators. Hand sanitizing dispensers have been installed at entrances of each building and in all highly populated areas. Building ventilation systems have been adjusted to maximize the amount of outside air and continuously “flush” the building’s air.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — CDC
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has an informational website that can help answer frequently asked questions, such as what are the symptoms, prevention and treatment, and travel restrictions. It also includes situation updates and information for communities, schools, businesses, and health care professionals.
As we transition to remote learning, access to a reliable internet connection is crucial. Here are several links to companies who are providing broadband internet access for free or small fees for students:
FCC agreement stating that providers will waive late fees, not cutoff service for lack of payment, and open hot spots.
AT&T COVID-19 response: offers open hot spots, unlimited data to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low-income families
Verizon COVID-19 response: no special offers but following the FCC agreement.
Sprint COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, provides unlimited data to existing customers, and starting Tuesday, 3/17/2020 will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.
T-Mobile COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, plus unlimited data to existing customers.

“Remote Learning” is defined as an educational experience that occurs when the instructor and the students are not meeting in the same physical space. Online classes are the most common example of remote learning, but the phrase can also include educational experiences where students are learning and interacting via video, electronic correspondence, telephone, or other means of communication.
At this time, the VA has advised us not to make any changes to certifications for the current term. We are awaiting further guidance about whether benefits will be affected
If you are at elevated risk for COVID-19 (as defined by the CDC) or have a family member at home who has an elevated risk, you should put together an all online course schedule for fall 2020. However, if you absolutely need a hybrid course to progress through your major, or for graduation, you can complete this form by August 1st to request a fully online exception for your hybrid classes. Where possible, we will try to offer you alternatives to courses with an in-person component. However, we will not be able to offer this option for all classes.
