First Year Experience (FYE)

The First Year Experience takes place during the first-year, or freshman year, of college and it is dedicated to equipping Nepantla students with skills, tools, and knowledge that continues to support their transition to NSC.

#TeamNepantla students who successfully completed the Summer Bridge will be enrolled in the following courses their first year at NSC:

Writing the expository essay; emphasis on revising and editing for development, coherence, style, and correctness.  This course provides extra assistance in English writing skills.

Mastery-based course of basic math content through Elementary Algebra.  Topics include arithmetic and algebraic concept, solving linear equations and inequalities, polynomials and factoring, and exponents.

A foundations course in education and introduction to the philosophy, history, and sociology of modern education.  Emphasis is placed on current trends in education.

Theory and performance work in extemporaneous speaking and related speaking experiences.  Emphasis placed on developing skills necessary for effective public speaking.

  • Continue to develop relationships with faculty.
  • Participate in Nepantla events to further cultivate a sense of belonging and community.
  • Contribute to overall Nepantla support by interacting with previous cohorts.
