Nevada State College has ranked number two in Best Value Schools’ nationwide search for Best Elementary Education Degrees.

Best Value Schools researched accredited programs and assigned a weighted score based on the cost of tuition and the number of credit hours in the program. The organization stated, “Nevada State College stood out due to its innovative and engaging classes, as well as providing high-quality education at an affordable price.”

Nevada State ranked higher than several larger schools including the University of Central Florida, Indiana University, and the University of Kansas as well as regional universities including Utah Valley University, Weber State University, and Northern Arizona University.

“We are honored to have our School of Education’s innovative programs recognized on a national level,” said Vickie Shields, Ph.D., provost and executive vice president of Nevada State College. “Our programs are truly unique as they address current issues our school-aged children face on their academic journey to success.”

Nevada State’s School of Education continues to be a pioneer in providing innovative degree programs that prepare future teachers to be a difference-maker in the lives of school-aged children while simultaneously changing the cycle of education state-wide. The School of Education’s commitment to locally growing more teachers includes building out a grow our own teachers initiative in collaboration with high schools in Clark County. This commitment also includes launching innovative new academic programs. In the Fall of 2020, the school launched a baccalaureate degree program in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Bilingual Education. In the Fall of 2021, the school will launch Nevada’s first Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education baccalaureate dual degree program.

“Our entire faculty at Nevada State remain steadfast in elevating the quality of education throughout Southern Nevada and beyond,” said Dennis Potthoff, Ph.D., dean of the School of Education. “Students enrolled in our programs will have unique opportunities to conduct evidence-based research through a curriculum that prepares students to become holistic educators.”

Starting in Fall 2021, the School of Education programs will be taught in Nevada State’s new $61.8-million Glenn and Ande Christenson Education Building which will feature an early childhood education center and a speech-language pathology clinic.

As one of Nevada’s most diverse college campuses, Nevada State offers students from all backgrounds, including non-traditional and high-achieving students, an opportunity to earn a degree through quality academic programs that ready them for in-demand careers. Nevada State College, which has several financial assistance programs, continues to have one of the most affordable tuition rates in the nation beginning at $175 a credit.
