Nevada State College’s Environmental and Resource Science Program partnered with two local businesses, Eagle Drilling Services, LLC and McGinley and Associates, to demonstrate environmental drilling techniques on NSC grounds on March 9, 2012. With the goal to further the student’s education outside of the classroom, students in the Environmental Measurement and Analysis class were able to view the setup of the truck-mounted drill rig, drilling of a three-foot hole with an auger and collection of a soil sample.
At Nevada State College we strive to provide our students with practical job site training that will better prepare them for their careers, said Edwin Price, assistant professor of environmental science. This field demonstration provided students with a visual understanding of how soil samples are collected prior to the analysis they will carry out as environmental scientists.
Both McGinley and Associates and Eagle Drilling donated their time and services to the college for the demonstration in efforts to help build an educated workforce.
