NBA veteran, University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Champion, and Change & Impact Founder, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist visited Nevada State University on Monday, March 4 as a part of the Change & Impact Stuttering Advocacy Tour. Kidd-Gilchrist presented his personal experiences as a person who stutters to students and faculty at Nevada State.

Selected by the PaLS department, Daniela Garcia-Maldonado is an actively involved, bright student. Always learning, she has participated in INBRE’s iSURF program, conducted NIH research, and been an INBRE lab technician.
Throughout it all, she has persevered through significant health ...challenges. Daniela hopes to become a Physican Assistant and, as a DACA student, is creatively trying to find ways to pay for further education. She is graduating Summa Cum Laude.

His thesis examines the complex relationship African Americans have with their ancestry, seeking to illuminate both the profound loss and resilient spirit of discovery and reconnection. His unique approaches explore heritage and celebrate cultural connection.

Tia exemplifies the best of Nevada State—she is a genuine scholar activist who effectively blends a commitment to academic excellence with a strong sense of community purpose. 🦂
A cancer survivor and an involved single mother of nine, she consistently makes the Dean’s List and still... finds time to volunteer as an advocate for local neglected and abused children. An inspiration to all, Tia is completing a communication major with three minors. After graduate studies, she hopes to one day teach at Nevada State. 💛

First up, David Mulvihill. His prior work as an EMT inspired him to learn anatomy and physiology of speech with Dr. André Lindsey, eventually deciding to pursue ...speech-language pathology. A member of Nevada State’s chapter of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association, he is a critical thinker actively involved in his classes. He credits his aunt, Dr. Rachel Didier “DDA,” a former assistant professor at Nevada State, for providing motivation to further his education. 🦂
David shares this advice to people wanting to go back to school, “Don’t be embarrassed to go back, because what you are going is taking the next step in your life to doing something that you want.”
